    Rate of Pay: $158.93 per day 

    Position Status: Seasonal Contract, Full time 

    Term: June 15th – August 30th, 2025 

    Reports To: Assistant Manager of Programs 

    Situation 

    YMCA Camp Elphinstone is located near Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, Vancouver. It is situated on 144 acres of temperate rainforest along the shores of Howe Sound. During July and August, Camp Elphinstone offers programs for youth ages 5-17, including one and two week overnight camps, Leadership Development programs, paddling and hiking multi-day out-trips, and day camps. From September to June, Camp Elphinstone operates as an Outdoor Education, Event and Retreat Centre for schools, conferences, weddings, and other special interest groups. Camp Elphinstone currently serves over 10,000 participants annually.  

    YMCA Camp Elphinstone has accommodation and dining for up to 472 campers or guests. Camp Elphinstone employs approximately 140 staff/volunteers during July and August, with a team between 20-50 for the spring and fall Outdoor Education seasons, and a smaller core team of 10 staff during the winter season. Successful Camp Elphinstone staff are self-motivated individuals whose ambition is to help children and youth develop in an outdoor camp setting, and who believe in 5-star customer service for all client groups.  

    Nature & Scope 

    YMCA Camp Elphinstone is seeking an individual to fill the role of Program Supervisor. 

    The Program Supervisor is responsible for organizing and creating all program schedules for all summer camp sessions and overseeing all land programs. Specific duties include planning and executing creative programming and theme days/special events, providing support and supervision to the land-based program staff, ensuring all land program equipment is in good working order, and ensuring all land programs are safe, fun, intentional, and camper-focused. The Program Supervisor must have previous camp and scheduling experience. 

    The Program Supervisor is a member of the senior staff team at camp. The senior staff team collaborates closely with the Summer Camp Manager and Assistant Camp Managers to foster a positive camp culture and prioritize the safety and well-being of all campers. Dedicated to delivering a 5-star experience for campers and their families, senior staff play a key role in the development and facilitation of summer staff training. They are also responsible for providing ongoing support to their respective teams throughout the camp season. 

    Responsibilities 

    • Provide direct supervision to the program assistants and land program staff. Oversee all land programs (archery, mountain biking, high ropes/low ropes, rock climbing, arts & crafts).

    • Assist with developing and delivering innovative training that supports professional development of staff & volunteers.
    • In conjunction with the Assistant Camp Manager, create and organize weekly and bi-weekly program schedules for up to 400 participants.
    • Oversee all creative programming & theme days and assume the lead role in delivering and facilitating these programs.
    • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all participants and staff.

    Qualifications

    • Standard First Aid & CPR-C 
    • Previous experience in camping, youth recreation, and/or experiential education
    • Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening issued no later than six (6) months preceding start date 
    • 3 successful reference checks
