    Rate of Pay: $138.93/day 
    Position Status: Seasonal Contract, Full time 
    Spring Term: March 31st to June 20th , 2025 
    Summer Term: June 22nd – August 23rd OR August 30th, 2025 
    Fall Term: September 1st to October 18th /November 1st , 2025 
    Reports To: Outdoor Education Coordinators / Outdoor Education & Events Manager OR Program Supervisor
    Applicants interested in summer and/or fall term positions preferred

    Nature & Scope 

    YMCA Camp Elphinstone is seeking experienced and safety-focused individuals for the role of Rock Wall/High Ropes Instructor to join the Outdoor Education & Events team.  
    Instructors are responsible for all aspects of the challenge course program, including the safe operation and supervision of the rock wall, high ropes, and low ropes courses.  
    They inspect, maintain, and manage all challenge course equipment, ensuring a high standard of risk management and delivering a participant-centered, experiential learning experience for students and adults visiting camp. 

    Rock Wall/High Ropes Instructors ensure that all challenge courses adhere to provincial, ACCT, and YMCA standards, following established policies and procedures.  
    As integral members of the program facilitator team, they work closely with the Outdoor Education Coordinators to provide engaging, participant-focused programming across various camp areas. 

    In addition to their primary duties, instructors receive comprehensive training in all camp programs and are expected to uphold risk management practices in each activity they lead. 

    Instructors are flexible team players who assist as needed in other program areas and contribute to site maintenance through cleaning and facility upkeep, helping keep site in top condition. 

    Responsibilities 

    • Facilitate experiential and camper-focused high ropes, and rock climbing to different age students and adult groups. 
    • Regularly inspect, maintain, and inventory all challenge course equipment. Report issues to the Coordinators.
    • Provide positive customer service and high-quality experience to all guests and clients from schools, private rentals and retreats, and weddings.
    • Ensure that all staff, participants and guests follow Camp Elphinstone’s challenge course policies and procedures at all times.
    • Work with the other members of the program facilitators team to accomplish shared responsibilities.
    • Assist with general maintenance, cleaning, and site support duties as required for daily operation.
    • Be in accordance with all provincial, ACCT, and YMCA standards, policies and, procedures.

    Qualifications 

    • Standard First Aid & CPR-C
    • ACCT Level 1 or equivalent experience
    • Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening issued no later than six (6) months preceding start date
    • 2 Successful Reference Checks

    Additional Qualifications (assets) 

    • ACCT Level 2
    • NLS (Pool or Waterfront)
