Shift: Shifts will vary, schedule will consist of evenings and weekends

Nature & Scope:
The Aquatics Supervisor leads the Aquatics staff team with a primary focus on aquatics programming and maintaining a safe aquatic environment. The Aquatics Supervisor also works collaboratively with all YMCA staff and volunteers. The work of the Aquatics Supervisor is advanced in its complexity and involves non-routine challenges. Work is also performed under limited direction according to broad guidelines. The successful candidate will have to problem solve and use their judgment in adapting and applying procedures to address and resolve unusual problem situations. This candidate will also be able to cover/teach Aqua Fit classes and lifeguard the pool when needed.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements strategies that achieve and sustain program growth for aquatic programming
- Ensures the provision of a safe aquatic environment through the hiring, supervision and training of lifeguards, instructors, and volunteers
- Performs service standards and provides leadership through direct service delivery, with a focus on program quality and participant engagement
- Identifies resource needs and liaises with Recruitment for hiring of new staff.
- Provides role and program specific orientation and training to new employees and volunteers.
- Coaches, develops, and supports employees and volunteers to achieve excellence in service delivery.
- Provides ongoing management of employee and volunteer performance and completes reviews within required process timeframes.
- Deals with performance issues using the required steps in the discipline process, up to and including termination.
- Participates in branch/program planning sessions and assists with the development and implementation of program plan and materials, ensuring compliance with Association/legislative requirements.
- Assists in preparation of program operating budget and ensures program is delivered within budget.
- Attends staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
- Explores and develops community partnership opportunity with the goal of increasing the breadth of YMCA programs and services
- Communicates with program participants and/or stakeholders to ensure service delivery standards are being met
- Promotes philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign
Requirements:
- Post‐secondary education in a related field
- Demonstrated achievement in implementing service standards
- Minimum 3 years progressive, results oriented, customer service, and aquatics supervisory experience.
- Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) pool option
- Experience as a Lifeguard/Swim instructor
- YMCA Swim Instructor or equivalent
- YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate or equivalent
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR‐C & AED certificate
- Access to a vehicle or able to travel within the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable sector Search
