The Camp Fircom Society (fircom.ca) is seeking an Executive Director to further the mission of providing excellent camp experiences and retreat space for people of all ages, abilities and identities. Located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Squamish People on Gambier Island, Camp Fircom is a 20-minute water taxi ride from Horseshoe Bay. The Camp Fircom Society is affiliated with The United Church of Canada. Fircom’s mission is aligned with the values of community, inclusion, acceptance, justice, equity, and stewardship.

Salary range: $66,000 - $82,000 annually
Job summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads a staff team and is responsible for all matters relating to the year-round operation of the camp. It is the Executive Director’s responsibility to ensure the staff, campers’ and participants’ health and safety is always given top priority and that the mission, vision and values of Camp Fircom are nurtured and supported throughout its operation to create a sense of community and inclusion.
The Executive Director’s role encompasses elements of planning, operations, finance, compliance, communications, marketing, and human resource management. This position is full time, year-round with longer hours expected in the summer and compensating time off in the winter. This position works primarily from a Vancouver office from November to March and up to five days in a row at the camp during the remainder of the year.
Qualifications
- Progressive experience in non-profit management.
- Experience with recruiting, training and supervising staff.
- Proven transformational leadership skills and experience with team development and mentoring.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Understanding of how to work appropriately with a volunteer board of directors.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Ability to set goals for professional growth and propel own continuing education.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with software including Google Business Suite, Dropbox, Slack, and Quickbooks Accounting.
- Successful completion of Occupational First Aid Level 3 or 90-hour Wilderness First Aid.
- Drivers’ licence required. Access to a vehicle is often required.
- Graphic design, marketing, and communications experience an asset.
- Pleasure craft operator certification and boating experience an asset.
