Sasamat Outdoor Centre (SOC)
The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC (ANHBC) is currently seeking an experienced executive to join our senior leadership team and provide leadership to Sasamat Outdoor Centre (SOC).
Located on the western shore of Sasamat Lake in Belcarra Regional Park, Sasamat Outdoor Centre offers a variety of programs such as summer day camps, resident camps and family camps, and provides rental facilities for community groups and schools. SOC is an accredited member of the British Columbia Camps Association.
The successful candidate will be visionary leader and strategic thinker with a proven record of strong leadership skills and extensive experience within the organized camping industry, and will have an ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff, volunteers and a volunteer Community Board, as well as funders, community partners and local groups, to achieve the organization’s mission and goals.
Accountability:
Working within the ANHBC senior leadership team, the Executive Director of SOC reports to the CEO of ANHBC with respect to operational and association-wide responsibilities, and has functional accountability to the SOC Community Board in respect to community level priorities. The successful candidate will lead a team of 3 year-round staff and more than 60 seasonal staff and volunteers, and be responsible for an annual budget currently in the range of 1.5 million.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of senior level management/leadership experience at a similar sized organization, ideally in a not-for-profit environment; in-depth knowledge of and experience in the camping industry is essential;
Strong strategic planning skills; must be able to connect vision, mission and strategic goals and develop work plan to achieve them;
Relevant graduate degree or higher –an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered:
A proven record of successful leadership in organization and staff development; experience coaching and mentoring emerging leaders;
Experience in human resources management, finance management, program planning and innovation, strategic planning and community collaboration, fund development and grant writing; Hands on experience in facility/property and rental management in a similar setting highly desirable;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to write coherent proposals and reports and to articulate, reframe and present complex ideas and messages;
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build and nurture internal and external relationships;
Broad knowledge and experience in place-based strategies, community development principles/initiatives and social programs/services
Valid BC driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
This is a regular full-time position with working hours outsides of regular business hours. Salary is commensurate with experience, and within the parameters of the ANHBC salary grid for Executive Directors.
