    Camp CounselLor - Family Program

    Job Purpose:

    Camp counselors at Family Program are referred to as a “Host”.

    This supportive volunteer role is perfect for individuals who have previous experience working with families and children/youth, or would like to gain more experience working with children/youth.

    Although Host volunteers are typically assigned one family, a team of 2 hosts may be assigned to families who are in need of extra support. As a Host, you are responsible for taking care of children while parents/caregivers take a break, engaging with children while parents/caregivers participate in Camp Goodtimes activities and supporting families at meal times, etc. While Hosts should be prepared to support to their assigned family, there is also ample opportunity to interact with ALL families and campers during your session.

    Responsibilities:

    • ·       Ensure the safety, wellness, and hygiene of assigned campers
    • ·       Collaborate with adult campers to create a healthy cabin environment that supports positive behaviour and attitudes
    • ·       Supervise children during parent/caregiver programming
    • ·       Role model positive behaviour to campers and workforce by following all camp rules and remaining engaged in activities
    • ·       Communicate all significant camper events, behaviours and emotional responses to the Camper Experience team as soon as possible
    • ·       Support the program team at various activities by actively engaging campers and assisting with program duties
    • ·       Provide written assessments and recommendations for assigned campers

    Requirements

    • ·       Valid First-Aid certification (renewed at least every 3 years)
    • ·       Current CPR-C certification (renewed every 3 years
    • ·       Proof of having received 2 doses of the Measles Vaccination
    • ·       Criminal Record Search including vulnerable sector check (within one year of camp)

    Dates:

    Volunteers come either one week or multiple weeks of the summer. Dates below:

    • ·       July 3rd – 6th – Family Program
    • ·       July 8th – 13th – Kids Program
    • ·       July 15th – 20th – Kids Program
    • ·       July 22nd – 25th – Family Program
    • ·       July 27th – 30th – Family Program
    • ·       August 1st – 4th – Family Program
    • ·       August 19th – 24th – Kids Program
    • ·       August 26th – 31st – Teen Program
