    We are seeking high energy, enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Camp Leaders, reporting to the Camp Director.  Eureka Outdoor Camp is a non-profit charitable society offering outdoor recreational programs for children and adolescents with invisible disabilities.  These can include learning disabilities, ADHD, tourette syndrome, mild autism etc. 

    Our summer program offers campers a chance to try new skills and make friends in a friendly environment where our staff participants have a good understanding of invisible disabilities and related disorders and the challenges they create.  The camp is located at Camp Elphinstone on the Sunshine Coast and training takes place in Vancouver.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    As a Camp Leader, you will work to provide a safe and structured cabin environment for predominantly male campers with invisible disabilities.  Our campers typically require a higher level of support, knowledge and care than mainstream campers.  Our Camp Leaders support campers who would otherwise not be successful in a mainstream environment.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    ·      Maintain a highly structured program especially with regard to daily routines.

    ·      Provide consistent leadership, supervision and direction with simple rules with regard to appropriate behaviour.

    ·      Use of natural and logical consequences for encouraging behaviour rather than punishment.

    ·      Individualize and adapt activities to specific needs encouraging cooperation rather than competition.

    ·      Participate in staff training.

    ·      Review reports and other documents relating to a campers general health and well being as well as specific information related to the campers disabilities.

    ·      Plan for and implement a safe and structured cabin environment.

    ·      Encourage the progressive development and maintenance of sequencing skills that will support the continued integration of the camper.

    ·      Encourage and support participation in camp activities, ensuring the provision of extra support where required.

    ·      Actively observe for indications of stress to ensure a positive and happy experience for each camper.

    ·      Provide a leadership role within each cabin group to support a safe and enjoyable experience for campers.

    ·      Submit camper reports and incident reports in a timely manner.

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    ·      Post secondary education in special needs, youth programs, recreation or related fields.

    ·      Previous experience working with children, particularly children with invisible disabilities.

    ·      Previous residential or summer camp experience.

    ·      Sound planning, organizational, supervisory and communication skills.

    ·      Well-developed written and oral communication skills.

    ·      Commitment to working cooperatively with other staff and the Camp Director.

    ·      Current first aid training including CPR

    Other qualifications may include:

    ·      Strong background in outdoor or wilderness recreation.

    ·      Strong background in sports and fitness

    ·      Class 4 drivers license.
