Job Description:
BC Easter Seals Camps provide overnight summer camping experiences for children and teens with physical and/or mental disabilities throughout British Columbia. We operate three accessible camp locations: Camp Shawnigan on Vancouver Island, Camp Squamish north of Vancouver, and Camp Winfield in the Okanagan Valley. Every summer over 900 kids with disabilities come to camp to have the best week of their year.
Spending a summer as a member of an Easter Seals camp is a unique opportunity to share your energy, your ideas and your strengths with kids who will, in turn, enrich your world. As a summer opportunity, camp offers a wealth of skills and experiences that you will carry with you throughout life. Leadership, compassion, teamwork, creativity and commitment are valuable qualities in any employee - at camp you will demonstrate and develop these skills. We are seeking candidates for the following positions:
NURSES: Oversee health and safety at camp. They dispense medication, monitor special diets, and administer first aid. There are two RNs that make up this invaluable team at each camp that keeps camp healthy enough to play all day!
COUNSELLORS: Responsible for the care, safety and emotional well being of campers during camp sessions. Prior experience is not essential - far more important is a high level of responsibility, positive attitude, creativity, respect, and an ability to recognize both the strengths and needs of others. Counsellors work in teams of 2 to provide an exceptional camp experience to their group of 4-6 campers.
PROGRAMMERS: This is an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to build skills in event management, team facilitation, and program design. Tons of freedom and creativity are provided to our programmers, who in turn use the incredible resources of camp to create immersive programming for our camp groups. Learn to design, adapt, and lead dynamic sessions with this incredible team! There are 5 programmers at each camp: arts & crafts, ropes, games & recreation, outdoor pursuits and two lifeguards.
Qualifications:
What we’re looking for in our staff really comes down to the right kind of attitude more than any qualifications. Since we cover everything you need to know in orientation, prior experience is not necessary. A positive, anything-can-happen attitude, imagination, and sense of humour are all things we value. On top of that we aim to hire staff with a lot of energy, that can thrive in a high intensity work environment and bring out the best in all those around them.
The one certification all staff must hold by their start date is a valid Standard First Aid CPR-C certificate.
Lifeguards must hold a valid NLS certificate.
RNs must be in good standing with CRNBC and approved to work in BC.
