Job Title: BCCA Interim Program Coordinator (maternity leave coverage)
Location: Remote (work from home and travel throughout BC)
Term: Temporary, 8-32 hours per week (May 26-September 12, 2025) *some date flexibility is possible for the right candidate
Salary: $23-25 per hour commensurate with experience plus 4% vacation
About the BCCA: The BC Camps Association (BCCA) is a non-profit organization that offers leadership and coordination to the camp movement in BC. The BCCA represents over 50 member camps. The camp members are diverse. There are religious, secular, and agency camps. There are seasonal operations, year-round camps, volunteer-driven organizations, or large staff teams. Throughout BC, their operations encompass overnight summer camps, outdoor schools, day camps, family camps, outdoor leadership programs, retreat programs and/or venue rentals.
A key aim of the organization is to improve the safety and quality of camp experiences in BC. This is achieved through running a province-wide accreditation program, offering professional development networking opportunities to camp professionals, and promoting the benefits of camp to the BC public. The BCCA is governed by a volunteer board of directors composed of up to 11 representatives from around the province.
Position Overview: The BCCA is seeking an Interim Program Coordinator for a part-time term to cover a maternity leave from May 26-September 12, 2025. Hours in June & August are expected to range from 8-16 hours per week. Hours will be at peak during the month of July to administer several in person accreditation visits at camps across BC and are expected to range from 24-40 hours per week.
Reporting to the BCCA Board of Directors (via the BCCA board president), the Interim Program Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be the administration and execution of member camp accreditation visits across the province. A thorough grounding in the BCCA accreditation process and standards, superior written and verbal communication, time management and familiarity with scheduling a team of volunteers is essential. This position will also require significant travel over the summer (all travel expenses covered). The position requires integrity, passion, humour and self-care in support of the camping industry in BC!
Key Responsibilities:
Accreditation
· Assist in regular updates and maintenance of the accreditation standards manual
· Administer the annual onsite accreditation visits
· Collect accreditation paperwork after visits and compile into an accreditation report
· Collect receipts and submit accreditation expense reports for visitor reimbursement
· Follow-up regarding outstanding items and deficiencies on accreditations and issue letters of accreditation
· Assist the Accreditation Chair with inquiries and other tasks regarding accreditation
Marketing and Communications
· Manage and content create relevant content for BCCA social media channels
· Manage website and ensure current and relevant information
· Create monthly email newsletter for members
Member Relations
· Respond to inquiries from current and perspective members as required (including corporate, camp or individual members).
· Provide member support via internal or external resources as applicable.
BC Camping Conference
· Attend conference meetings and support the conference team with conference planning tasks as required (the committee is typically on hiatus July-August)
Society Support
· Attend BCCA Board meetings as required and create, file and maintain board meeting agendas and minutes as needed.
Required Qualifications & Skills
· Diploma, degree, or equivalent of experience, in Outdoor Recreation, Business Administration, or Non-Profit Management.
· Excellent organization, customer service, time management, and teamwork abilities
· Proven self-starter who can work and be productive with little supervision.
· Knowledge of the BC camping industry and the BCCA accreditation process.
· Physical ability to complete the tasks required.
· BC Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle or ability to rent a vehicle.
· Ability to travel within BC for onsite accreditation visits.
· Use of personal laptop. Phone will be provided.
· Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
