Rental Group Hosts & Instructors help all visitors feel at home, teach outdoor skills and Eco Fun courses, lead hikes, orchestrate campfires, and so much more—all in the same day! Love hands-on outdoor experiences? Given that all staff stay onsite at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre while programs are in session, applicants should enjoy working in a dynamic work environment, as the action rarely stops. Very strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must, as well as a passion for forest education!
General Responsibilities
- Represent Evans Lake and uphold our mandate and objectives
- Demonstrate positive leadership for visiting students, teachers, and parents, as well as colleagues
- Host visitors of all ages (with a focus on visiting school groups), providing excellent customer service and ensuring their safety and well-being
- Facilitate a wide variety of experiential, environmental, and educational programs and activities, including integrating forest themes into all camp programming
- Maintain work areas and repair program equipment in coordination with other staff
- Accept the responsibilities associated with being an Evans Lake first aid attendant and/or lifeguard
- Other duties as assigned (e.g. driving campers, staff, and/or supplies; cleaning; project work)
Term
Safety
- Comply with Evans Lake’s policies and procedures and be accountable for the safety of clients and colleagues
- Champion health and safety procedures, including daily health checks for visitors and staff, physical distancing, and cleaning (appropriate training and personal protective equipment will be provided)
Reporting & Evaluation
- Rental Group Hosts/Instructors report to the Program Manager
- A goal-setting & evaluation process will be initiated by the Program Manager or a Senior Instructor
- Continuous feedback and communication amongst staff members is encouraged
Required Certifications & Experience
- Previous experience working with school-aged children in an outdoor setting (preferably outdoors!)
- First Aid Certificate (at minimum an 8-hour basic certificate that includes CPR)
- Preference may be given to candidates who have at least a Class 5 driver’s license
- Additional certifications and licenses are assets (e.g. a Class 4 driver’s license; certifications in advanced first aid, paddling, rock-climbing, low ropes, first aid, lifeguarding, archery, risk management, or environmental education)
Additional Information:
- Compensation ranges from $140/day, with an increase of up to $7/day, according to experience and certifications. Free room and board is also provided when programs are in session.
